The annual re organization meeting of the Board of Trade was held in the fire hall on Tuesday evening. Geo E Van Blaricom was elected President and KR H Pook Secretary Treasurer. Eight members named as executive. Also notices Charlie Chaplin in A Dogs Life at the Elite Friday and Saturday at 7 30 and 9 40.
A year has passed since the last message as the issue offers holiday wishes. It notes the end of war’s carnage and expresses gratitude and blessings for readers and their households this Christmastide.
J J Gown formerly Mixes Mary Baker died December 13 at her father's home in Summertown Ontario after a long illness. She had moved from Wilkie September 18 with husband Owl Gunn and family for treatment. death caused by pancreatic illness. Survived by husband Mr Gunn, six children, and siblings. Interment was from her father's Summertown home on December 14. The Gunn family receives heartfelt sympathy from friends in Wilkie and area.
Hickson, residing near Tramping Lake, appeared before J P Dinsley charged with forging a signature on a telegram to be sent to Kerrobet asking witnesses to attend a case. He was committed for trial at the next Assizes in Scott in spring. he is out on bail in another case. A Red Cross nurse letter from Mesopotamia praises volunteers and the care given to troops.
Retained on authority of Hon N W Rowell the Red Riders of the Mains are to be reinstated and brought to full strength of 1200 men. Duties include enforcement of federal laws patroling the international boundary line and enforcing orders under the war measure act. They will aid civil powers to preserve law and order as directed by the Canadian government.
Municipal note warns taxpayers to pay by December slot to avoid penalty. It states penalties apply January 1 and urges compliance, signed by C. H. Martin.
The Curling Club held its annual meeting at the fire hall last night electing Hon. President G. M. McKay and President T. A Dinsley. Patrons are W. W. Scrimes K Martin and H C Wright with officers G G Ellie secretary treasurer P F Savelieff. executive A Schaab B Kirkland R N Simpson G C Booth G McClure and P M Florence. Membership fee set at five dollars for gentlemen and free for ladies. A follow up meeting Monday at the fire hall at 7 o'clock to appoint ships and present the past year's financials.
Jim Stevens, once acclaimed as a barber hero, has returned from two years overseas to Canunda and plans to spend Christmas with friends in Willkie.
Mrs Fr Graver died at the hospital after influenza developed into pneumonia. She arrived from Newcastle upon Tyne five years ago and was married at Winnipeg. Her husband survives with an eleven month old child. Her remains lie in Wilkie cemetery. Mr Graver also sick with influenza recovered.
Elite Theatre announces a holiday program lineup starting Friday with Charlie Chaplin in Dogs Life a three reel comedy plus a five reel feature. A free 3 PM show for children is planned Friday. Evening shows at 7 30 and 9 30 with matinee Saturday December 21 and two night performances. Tarzan Of The Apes Christmas Day matinee at 3 and 8 30. No matinee December 26 but 8 30 evening Tarzan again. New Year Day features The Spoilers with a matinee and 7 40 PM show. The Speilers shown January 2. Cross Orchestra provides music.
Mrs J Le Ryle thanks friends in Wilkie for sympathy and flowers during the illness and death of her husband J L Kyle who died from influenza on November 20.
Miss Kuma Allenbrand, 28, died after influenza with pneumonia in Saskatoon. She came from Iowa, where her parents live and she taught school before ill health prompted the move. Funeral at Wilkie Cemetery Friday with family present. Rev. Ball to conduct.
