Wichita Freight Rates Challenged by Board of Railway
The Kansas Board of Railway Commissioners, in a March decision promul gated March 2, 1849, orders Missouri lines to rework tariffs for Wichita and Kansas points. The ruling finds unjust discrimination against Wichita merchants and packers, demands new tariff schedules, and outlines how rates to livestock meats and wholesale firms must be equalized within the state. The decision defends the board’s authority and warns railroads to adjust by July to restore fair competition.
