Giant railroad consolidation plan looms in Boston

A Chicago publisher is preparing a massive consolidation concept to unite unions of the Union and Northern Pacific, Canadian Pacific, and other lines under a Boston hub. The scheme envisions a transcontinental system from Santa Fe through the Pennsylvania coal region to the Hudson at Poughkeepsie, plus a Boston Europe freight and passenger line. Legally charged with ambitious capital and surveys since 1881, the plan aims at a dominant continental rail network with a new ocean cable to Germany and substantial reorganization of multiple railroad companies.
