The Senate nominates Ingalls of Kansas for president pro tempore with a Democratic bloc backing Harris. A veto dispute over a soldier pension bill dominates the day, with party lines and public support shaping the outcome.
The Kansas senate spent most of the day in committee on the Murray temperance bill, voting amendments but not striking its vitality. A new railroad charter was granted for the Topeka Amoret Southern line with Pennsylvania and Missouri backing. Brugler of Butler County spearheaded the effort. Senator Ingalls was nominated for president of the senate, drawing enthusiastic applause and strong support from allies.
