In the winter of 1887 53 Dr Ed Seler journeyed to Mexico to pursue archmorodical researches. Preliminary report in Proceedings of the Tayat Gyographical society reveals he studied Huaxteca Zapotica and found no fundamental difference between Aztec hieroglyphics and Maya manuscripts. He visited the Byaxteen Indians, described forested terraces and river valleys, villages along rivers, and ranches where people engage in domestic agriculture and animal husbandry. The capital draws its cattle to Pashura, very limited irrigation exists, and much of the country imports goods from the United States. Indigenous people produce beans, peppers, brown sugar, palm fiber, and tallow candles. literacy is rare, and customs include dancing, cockfighting, and horse racing. Throug h trails through forests, villages have jaras and thatched houses. tortillas form the staple food.

Clock maker W W Seely compared it to a near duplicate from Toronto, noting its antiquated brass and woodwork. Estimates ranged around $40 to $1,000, with collectors debating value as the clock’s rich craft and history stood out.
