Oklahoma lands open to actual settlers under homestead laws
The General Land Office announces that lands in Oklahoma opened to settlement must be disposed of to actual settlers under homestead laws. Applicants may enter at district land offices, prove residence with acts showing intent, and then complete claims within specified periods. Commissioner Stockslager predicts about 106000 settlers in the coming month, with a large surplus of homeseekers awaiting Cherokee negotiations and land openings. Boomers encamped at Winfield await moves toward opening new tracts before further congressional action.
