The High School Reflector notes WHS seniors received class rings on opening day. Rings feature yellow and pink gold, WHS crest, and year 1950. It lists seniors receiving rings and mentions class colors red and white, class flower red rose, dues for the 1952 senior trip, and officers for juniors and seniors with various class mothers and officers named.
On September 12 the high school opened with halls full of students and an estimated enrollment of 114 or 115. More students are expected later in the year as new students and new faculty are welcomed by the community and editors.
Whitewright welcomes Mrs Nan Dyer as the new homemaking teacher. She comes from Flower Grove and has three years of recent teaching in the West. She did graduate work at TSCW Denton and A M College Fort Collins Colo.
WHS reports about 114 students this year with several new arrivals including Ruth Ann Cummings from Bonham Aubrey Lee Burnham from Tyler Jack Smith from Sherman Gwen Summerlin from Bonham and Earlene Fletcher from Bells. Editors say they hope the newcomers feel at home and are glad to have them.
Whitewright High School will host Honey Grove in a non conference football game at Bryant Field Friday Sept 23 after a 20 win over Leonard last Saturday. The Tigers must stay alert throughout the contest. Honey Grove defeated WHS last year.
The senior class met in room 10 on Tuesday September 13 to elect The Bell and Reflector staffs. Joe Pannell was chosen business manager, with Bill King as sports editor Mary Thornhill as art editor Jane Meador as photographer Dorothy Birdwell as assistant editor Betty Blackerby as feature editor Kelly Pierson as sports editor and Billye Dillon as social editor.
A WHS note salutes teachers, new superintendent, and Tiger football players with Sweetpeas. Garlic items target disobedient boys and rival Van High team, smart-alecks, bell wire troublemakers, and sissies, while praising The Bell staff.
Co editors announce subscriptions for the 1950 Bell annual with a deadline of September 30. Readers are urged to subscribe now before the school year ends to receive the book on time.
A compiled list attributes several young women with single traits such as hair, legs, lips, eyes, nose, form, clothes, intelligence, athletic ability, romances, posture, personality, complexion and smile attributed to individuals including Prilla Hinton Mary Thornhill Betty Watkins Nell Vandagriff Carol Hughes Mazelle Musser Betty Blackerby Billie Mi lam Dot Birdwell Joan Scott Corinne Hard castle Peggy Clark Gwen Kent Gwen Summerling Billye Dillon Carol Kilgree and Earlene Fletcher.
The Whitewright High pepsters met Sept 14 to discuss finances for drum repairs and the football banquet. Plans include selling Tiger pins and car stickers, dues set at 2 dollars, and a committee to study uniforms. Ouida Nell Ryan named cheerleader. Jo Ann Scott replaced due to illness.
