Grayson County produced 7036 bales of cotton before September 1 1938, down from 8521 bales in the same period last year, per G O Peterson government cotton statistician.
Cotton Ginned in Fannin County This Season
Federal statistics show 9,583 bales ginned in Fannin County before Sept 1, down from 11,994 last year. Total 1937 receipts reach 74,250 bales. The current crop is estimated at 35,000 to 55,000 bales.
Whitewright Schools Open With Large Enrollment
Whitewright public schools started Monday with growing total enrollment. Grammar school holds 267 students, up 46 from last year. high school has 169, down from 185. New teacher Miss Sarah Everheart joins grammar school. staffing lists for both schools provided. Grammar library gains Britannica Junior sets and related units.

Sherman reports Will Leslie, president of the Red River Valley Fair board, urged farm women to exhibit at the Sherman exposition October 3 to 8. Mrs. Fred Riddle presided at the Grayson County Council of Women’s Farm Clubs session with 30 members from 14 clubs. Mrs. Mac Crow urged culinary and textile entries and a council booth. Each club was asked to enter 10 items in the dress parade, with sub committees named to manage pickles, judges, council booth, and pickle booth.

More Drivers Licenses Suspended In Texas Rise
In Texas suspensions of drivers licenses have quadrupled since the September law amendment. The 12 months before last September 1,264 licenses were suspended after traffic violations. since last September 1, 1,003 suspensions were reported due to tighter laws and improved court cooperation, says Ralph L. Employment Service Office to Open Early in Bonham
The Bonham Texas State Employment Service office will begin 6 a m openings on September 19 to connect farmers needing cotton pickers with workers seeking work. A WPA road project covering 14.23 miles in Whitewright will begin soon after approval by County Judge Jake Loy.
