FDA Move To Childproof Furniture Polish Containers
The Public Health Service cites 500000 annual child poisonings from reachable household polishes with 500 deaths. After September 13, 1972, makers must use childproof packaging for polishes with at least 10 percent mineral seal oil, tested to prevent under five year olds from opening 85 percent of the time while adults open 90 percent. Only about a half teaspoon should be obtainable from a shake or squeeze. The FDA plans to extend to other toxic items like turpentine, methyl alcohol, sulfuric acid, paint thinners, solvents, antifreeze, drain cleaners. Calls for clearer warnings due to toddlers sensing packaging tricks and risks of skin contact.
