A July 21 1918 note from a Pilot Grove boy in France to his father describes life there. He compares French trains to U S trains noting small passenger coaches with side doors and eight seats per compartment, tiny freight cars, few autos mostly Fords, and double deck streetcars, finding life in France a fine place with sights to see unlike those at home.
An old home remedy advertises lemon juice mixed with orchard white to create a freckle and tan lotion. It promises to lighten freckles and blemishes, claiming the mixture is harmless and inexpensive.
Corporal Willie W. Jupp of Battery B, 845th Field Artillery AEF writes home about life near the wagons and brick buildings. He notes one-horse teams, sparse wooden structures, a 700 year old church, and farms yielding on small plots with grain, livestock, and little cotton. He sends brief camping impressions and promises more details by mail time.
A Belvidere, Illinois writer Miss Sara Westen describes kidney trouble caused by overwork and worry. She says she could not stoop and had to crawl up by a chair, suffering great pain, but after using Foley Kidney Pills she feels strong again and urges others to try the remedy sold by Dyer & Jones.

A wartime health appeal cites attrition in the American forces and argues for kidney care and longevity. It promotes Dr. Pierce’s Anuric as a remedy and urges drinking water, milk and vegetables, with limited meat, plus a trial package offer.
A Cincinnati authority promotes freezone as a cheap remedy to remove corns and calluses. Apply drops to tender areas and the corn loosens and can be lifted out root and all without pain. A column advertising Farris Colic Remedy promises quick relief for a horse with colic. It claims simple use by placing drops on the tongue and relief in about thirty minutes. Sold by J. W. Davidson with urgency to purchase today.
Brnner Oklahoma resident W B Putlips says rheumatism in knee and back pain after loading wood vanished after taking two packages of Anuric Tablets. He reports curing effect surpassing other medicines and notes a neighbor also benefited. He adds agents have long used Doctor Force medicines.
The District Court of Grayson County Texas requires publication in a local newspaper for four weeks to summon J. H. Williams residence unknown to appear September 1 1918 in Sherman for Eliza Williams divorce action filed August 22 1918 file no 257194. Clerk B D Dye notes citation and return.
