Dell Sears sustained a badly cut left wrist when a window shattered during an attempt to open it. He had surgery in a Sherman hospital and was discharged Saturday. The column lists numerous Sherman and area residents visiting relatives and friends in Dallas, Garland, Tom Bean, Paris, Den ton, and other locales over the past weekend and week.
TV sponsors plan at least ten comedies about military life including McHale's Navy Gomer Pyle and Hogan's Heroes. They fear Vietnam escalation drafts higher casualties will make such fare seem far from funny to audiences.
On opening day Whitewright schools enroll 456 students split 324 in elementary and 132 in the top four grades. Integrated schools report 380 white and 76 Negro students. The High School moved to a new building west of the American Legion Park while elementary grades remain in the old buildings.
Washington reports the Marine Corps weighs the draft for the first time since May 1952 amid rising enlistments. Defense sources say the elite service prefers volunteers but could seek Selective Service if 65,000 recruits are not met. Enlistment rose about 20 percent as draft quotas increased.

The National Cancer Institute will test a Houston doctor's method that reportedly detects cancer by mixing a blood sample with sunflower seed solution. The plasma reportedly turns a deep blue within 24 hours if cancer is present, though the doctor remains unnamed and the claim is viewed with skepticism.
Houston bill Spitz said he fed grain laced with alcohol to pigeons roosting at the courthouse lodges. After feeding, all but one bird staggered away to other roosts, completing the county commission task for now.

The American Medical Association warns venereal disease has reached epidemic levels in parts of the United States with infections near two per minute. Syphilis in under 20s up 200 percent in five years, gonorrhea rising similarly. The AMA launches a nationwide outreach with posters pamphlets radio TV messages and calls on state local medical societies schools hospitals and health agencies to join.
Reserved seats for the five Tiger home games are on sale from Supt. S. T. Montgomery. Holders of last year’s seats may keep the same seats. Price is 1.50 dollars for all five games.
A deacon in polished shoes passes a mudhole with a bullfrog begging for help. He declines to assist on Sunday to avoid delaying the collection, promising help on the way back. Later the frog reveals he left the hole only after a snake arrived, forcing the exit.
Funeral services are held in Celina for Mrs. Robert A. Jones daughter of the late Ad Pritchett an early Whitewright settler. She died Tuesday night and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery here. Her husband ran a Celina pharmacy until his death years ago.
George E. Griffin died Tuesday in Lockhart. Survived by daughter Mrs. Lee Murray of Bakersfield California sister Mrs. W. B. Hinton of Lockhart and brother Hayden Griffin of Brownfield. Nephew of T. H. Sears Luther Sears and Mrs. W. A. Kirkpatrick. Born Whitewright July 26 1879. Funeral held in Denton at 3 p m today.
J Ernest Andrew 61 of Pilot Grove died in a Sherman hospital at 10 15 p m last Thursday from injuries after being run over by a car on a road near Pilot Grove. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p m at Barnheart funeral chapel with Rev John Faulkner. Burial followed at Pilot Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers were Joe Russell Reynolds Clarence Murphy John C Elliott Jack Andrew H A Bow and Granville Ball. He was born August 23 1904, survived by two daughters and seven grandchildren among others.
Graveside services were held at 4 30 p m Saturday in Oak Hill Cemetery for Frank B Bradshaw 53 of Arlington formerly of Savey who was killed in a traffic accident in Arlington He was the son of Effie Hendricks of Howe route 1 and Malcolm Bradshaw of Sherman Survived by his wife a son and several brothers and sisters.
Mrs Jessie Woodard widow of the late Rev John W Woodard Presbyterian minister and ex student of Grayson College died of a heart attack Aug 30 at her Ladonia home. She was an elder and Sunday school teacher. Survivors include daughter Cathryn Woodard Dallas son E D Woodard Wichita Falls three sisters L F Jacks Whitewright A V Blassingame Big Spring and Earl Bartley Ladonia a brother Walter Bell Windom and two granddaughters.
Sen. Harry F. Byrd reports that federal civilian employment totalled 2,508,117 in June, up 28,626 from May. He notes the June figure includes Youth Opportunity Campaign hires, but reporting confusion hid how many temporary workers remained on the rolls at month end. Some 26,000 VOCs were appointed in June, though drops out are not detailed.

Grayson County Commissioners Court on Tuesday ordered a local option election in Van Alstyne for off premise sale of all alcoholic beverages.
