Corn Show Leading Feature At Red River Fair

Sherman Texas October 24 the exhibit of corn will be one of the most attractive features of the Red River Valley Fair according to W H Chisholm chairman of the committee Grayson County has this year one of the best corn crops in its history and our exhibit of corn should be the best we have ever had I want to urge now that all of our Grayson County farmers begin now to go through their corn fields and select the best ears We want displays of all varieties including popcorn June corn and all the different types of field corn grown in the county Each exhibit should consist of ten ears of uniform length size shape and color Care should be taken not to let any of the grains we knocked off There will be a nice list of prizes and we hope to have farmers and farm boys and farm girls from all sections of the county to make entries

Cotton stalk contest at Sherman fair offers $10 prize

A. M. Ferguson, chairman of the cotton committee for the R. R. V. Fair, announces a $10 premium for the best Grayson County cotton stalk. The event aims to educate farmers, with stalks judged like livestock on qualities. farmers are urged to select stalks with unpicked cotton, leave cotton in bolls until Nov. 15, then bring stalks to the fair. Additional prizes go to the ten largest, best formed open bolls with cotton, judged by size and storm resistance.

Right of Way Must Be Full Sixty Feet

Grayson county road bonds require a sixty foot right of way for new roads. If not secured, roads may divert to alternate routes. Field reports two engineering corps surveying routes from Denison through Ambo se through Bell s Whitewright Pilot Grove east of Van Alstyne and on the Denison Sherman Preston road toward Gordonville and Highway district near Delaware Bend.

Ginning Report Details 1915 Cotton Harvest Progress

Washington reports the third ginning period of the season with 5,713,347 bales ginned by October 18, 1915. Comparisons show 47.9 percent of the crop ginned to that date last year, with Texas at 2,007,000 bales versus 2,715,772 in 1914, and earlier years at higher levels.

Boy Walks From Home to Enter the University

A despondent student told University YMCA secretary T. W. Currie he wished to study despite being broke. He walked from Stevenville to Austin, picked cotton along the way to support himself, and arrived with no money offering a personal note to the Auditor for registration. He now seeks work to cover the note and year.

Grayson county officials led by T A Cole of the Sherman Chamber of Commerce vow a county wide sanitation drive to eradicate hog cholera. U S hog cholera expert Dr F R Jones will visit farms with prior outbreaks to demonstrate cleaning and disinfection for neighbors.

Billy Sunday Completes Omaha Crusade with Big Offering

In Omaha the evangelist Billy Sunday closed a seven week campaign drawing about 50 000 attendees in the final day. He left town with a free will offering of 18 425 59 and a list of 13 022 converts. An extra bw came in after departure and officials expect more conversions. Total tabernacle attendance reached 722 200 for the seven weeks, with 50 000 in the four congregations yesterday. Collections totaled 49 204 with 27 020 for campaign expenses and 3 820 for local charities.
