Historic Post Office Destroyed In San Antonio Flood
In San Antonio on October 25, the first post office on Dwyer Avenue known as the Quinta was wrecked by the recent flood. Built in 1761 and once a prison for American women, it later served as the city’s first post office in 1849 under postmaster John Bowen. The stone building stood by the river across from the courthouse and its damaged doors with letter slots remained as ruins.
