A letter from Mrs. Lucian Andrews of San Bernardino praises The Sun and invites the editor and his wife to California. She plans to visit Caracas on Nov 15 to celebrate Christmas with her daughter, then hopes to spend the next Christmas in Whitewright. She notes a preference for Texas over California.

Public Invited To Community Stew Tuesday Night

The local Boy Scouts invite the community to a free stew event Tuesday night Nov 1 in connection with Court of Honor ceremonies. Three kettles of stew and nine gallons of coffee will serve several hundred people. Visitors should bring a bowl cup and spoon. Serving begins at 7 with the Court of Honor to follow. Weather permitting it will be outdoors. otherwise in the American Legion Hall. Scoutmaster Bobby Anderson and assistant Clarence Tillett organize.

Jug of Water Sets Automobile Afire

Paul Caylor reports a glass jug of water in his car concentrated the sun’s rays and started a fire. He had left the jug in the vehicle while picking cotton and noticed smoke later. The blaze caught cloth gloves in the car near a bale of cotton, but he subdued it before it spread.

The Honey Grove Signal-Citizen relocates editorials to a new building south of the former site destroyed by fire. Printing remains at the Ladonia News plant. The paper bought the Robison tailor shop building, renovated for the newsroom and presses.

A mouse touched a high voltage resistor causing a dramatic short circuit that knocked WISN TV off the air for the day in Milwaukee Wisconsin. The incident ended the station's telecasting for the day and the animal was killed in the event.

Savoy Fire Department barbecue to fund truck debt

The Savoy Volunteer Fire Department expects a large turnout for a barbecue on Saturday night October 29 chaired by Claude Strickland to retire the indebtedness on Savoy's fire truck. Tickets cost 1.00 for adults and 0.50 for children under 12. A speech by Speaker Sam Rayburn is set for 8 p.m. Barbecue serving runs 5 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services were held at Fogle West Chapel Houston for Mrs Willa Nell Lipsey 26 burn death in pre dawn Houston home fire. Husband Howard Lipsey was critically burned after rescuing their five children. Lipsey body found near a door presumed trapped while seeking the children. The four surviving children and other family noted.

Death of George McLean noted in Albuquerque studies

Relatives here learned last night of the death in Albuquerque New Mexico of George McLean former local resident. He was the brother of the late Charley McLean and uncle to Charley McLean Jr and Miss Hazel McLean. He was also brother in law to Mrs Charley Layman and Mrs Jean Rhea Emerson. Emerson 83 died last Thursday in a Dallas hospital after years of ill health born in McKinney April 9 1872 she was daughter of the late Capt and Ella Foote Rhea married Cliff Emerson in 1894 who preceded her in death 1917. Emerson a Mary Baldwin College graduate was active in Daughters of the American Revolution and Edelweiss Literary Club of McKinney and taught in St Peters Episcopal Church activities.

Baptists Plan Town Religious Census Next Sunday

The First Baptist Church will canvass the town to take a religious census for all denominations. Newton Cole, pastor, divides the town into four sections with two workers per block to contact every house. A card will be filled for each family member and churches will receive compiled results. Caravan Heads to Van Alstyne for Football Game

A caravan of autos will travel to Van Alstyne Friday for Whitewright Tigers versus Van Alstyne Panthers. Decorate downtown 2:00 to 5:00 pm, or until 6:30 pm for late arrivals. caravan departs about 6:45 with police escort. Pep rally and bonfire at American Legion Park Thursday at 7:00 pm.
