Two Arrests in Empty Grave Insurance Case
Abilene Texas Oct 18 Following the arrest near Aspermont yesterday of Charles C Hoggett in connection with the finding of an empty grave supposed to contain the body of B J Cochran Sheriff W B Bing ham of Aspermont took into custody Wayne Ussery nine miles west of Bradshaw in Taylor County Hoggett and Ussery are said to have prepared the body for burial and are charged with misapplying converting and fraudulently taking from the Southwestern Life Insurance Company 5000 in money without consent and did then and there willfully and fraudulently convert to their own use by means of false and fraudulent representation The life of Cochran was insured for 10000 including 5000 in the Southwestern The insurance was collected it is said by his wife When the grave was opened by order of the grand jury it was found to contain an empty pine box.

Washington Oct 15 The Internal Revenue Bureau ruled that the head of every family may produce up to 200 gallons of nonintoxicating cider or fruit juice containing at least half a percent alcohol for home use. Cider fermented above half a percent is tax free up to 200 gallons. beyond that amount tax applies, and if intoxicating double the ordinary tax is charged.
