Cotton futures and spot prices fell sharply as decontrol cut ceiling protections. Local buyers in Whitewright watched a $10 decline per bale and a 60 to 218 point drop across markets. Traders warned the shift could flip the market to buyers’ side with mills forcing lower prices.

In Akron Ohio Goodyear Aircraft and Taylorcraft Aviation announce prefabricated aluminum houses for veterans priced between 5000 and 6500 dollars. The program is underway and first homes will take weeks to roll off the assembly line. Each one story home includes a kitchen two bedrooms living room dinette and bathroom. Priorities have been received on materials for 26 experimental homes.

Clarence Moore Lewis age 12 of the Orangeville community near Whitewright was killed when a pickup carrying five youths overturned near Burns Cemetery. J B Lewis and Harvey Lewis were injured as were Roy and Floyd Jackson. The truck’s steering gear locking caused the crash. Funeral at Corinth Cemetery near Ector with Glen Earnheart in charge.
The Whitewright American Legion Post will host a barbecue at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Legion Park led by Jim Bryant. Commander Tom Sears invites all ex-service members not in the Legion to attend as the post campaigns for a home, aiming to grow membership from about 150 to 200.

A federal inter agency committee urged funding for states to support a school program for youths aged 14 to 20 and to finance building educational facilities. It backed nationwide financial aid to secondary and higher education amid wartime employment concerns and possible postwar unemployment. Washington. The OPA removed price ceilings on fats and oils including soybeans flaxseed and all byproducts feeds and mixed feeds effective Thursday. It freed oleo margarine shortening mayonnaise salad dressing and other dressings plus cooking and salad oil. Also lifted were corn oil cottonseed oil peanut oil and soybean oil. The move follows livestock and food decontrol and aims to avoid distortions from rising lard prices. The Price Decontrol Board kept dairy price lids on butter cheese milk noting current prices are unreasonable but will not retreat under the decontrol plan.
Germany's 11 condemned war criminals die by hanging except Hermann Goering who reportedly took poison in his cell before the scheduled reading of his death sentence. Col. B C Andrus announced Goering's death by own action at 4 45 p m. The other ten Nazis died on the gallows in Nuremberg.
ST. LOUIS reported the Cardinals extend their record as four-time seven game World Series participants and remain undefeated in such series. Boston suffered its first loss in six attempts, leaving the Braves as the only major league club never to lose a World Series, having swept the 1914 Philadelphia Athletics.
Funeral services for D. R. Lewis, longtime Whitewright resident and former Van Alstyne marshal, were conducted at his daughter Lucian LaRoe’s home with Rev. R. L. Gilpin presiding. He died in Austin after pneumonia illness, survived by two daughters, two granddaughters, a great grandson, and a daughter-in-law, with interment at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Funeral services were held today at 2 o'clock at the First Baptist Church for Mrs. Hettie Lee Cates wife of Ray Cates who died early Wednesday at her East Whitewright home She was born April 27 1892 in Memphis Tennessee and lived in this area since age three Interment followed at City Cemetery Pallbearers included W L Moore Walter Compton and others She leaves a husband two children a son Raymond Cates of Paris and Mrs G O Hughes plus siblings and in laws in several states
BOSTON. Allied Stores Corporation president B Earl Puckett told a Boston distribution conference that if every man bought a pair of pajamas a year the industry would double. He urged reviving selling skills to boost the economy, noting women may buy more slips and suggesting a suit per year per man could double business. He also cited toothbrush life of six months and that many go without, creating good prospects.

The Woman's Missionary Society of Christian Service hosts a Day of Prayer at the Methodist Church on Monday October 28. Arrive at 11 o'clock with a covered dish. Lunch is served at 12 o'clock. All Methodist women are urged to attend during the week of prayer and self denial.
Eugene Nolte Republican candidate for governor spoke in Fort Worth about building a two party state and drawing disgruntled Democrats to the Republican fold. R B Creager, GOP national committeeman, said both major parties could not align and that Democrats who oppose the New Deal should join the Republican Party, while admitting limited optimism for November elections.
The Community Frozen Food Market announces a clinic at the locker plant Monday at 1 PM. Miss Zelma Moore, Grayson County home demonstration agent, will lecture on preparing foods for freezing and answer questions. The public is invited to attend. The frozen food plant, opened last Friday, drew a fine reception with visitors over the weekend. Local business owners contributed flowers for the opening. the store also includes a grocery and market run by Joe May and Bill White.
The Whitewright Tigers host Rockwall Friday in their first conference game. Rockwall has two wins and one loss. Whitewright also has two, with crowds expected from both sides. The Rockwall squad is noted as one of the toughest the Tigers will face this season.
Grayson County tax bills totaling 652 987 53 were mailed to 20 337 citizens. Tax officer George R. Schumacher said real estate values rose modestly while personal property dropped. The 1946 total includes 108 858 for state at 32 cents, 397 175 for county at 95 cents, 121 284 for school districts, and 21 958 50 for 14 632 polls. Last year’s roll was 625 599 87.
The Office of Price Administration boosted newsprint ceilings by ten dollars a ton effective Friday, denying a decontrol request from newspaper publishers.
