George Schumacher county tax assessor announces a new step for 1970 voting qualification. Registrants must file an application at the tax office to obtain a voter certificate before voting in school city county or state elections. Registration runs through January 31, 1970, the same deadline as tax payments.
The Texoma Regional Planning Commission gets a state grant of 10,000 for 1970 with matching funds from members to total 20,000. Gov Preston Smith praised Texas regional planning commissions as serving 77 percent of the population. Allocations ranged from 10,000 for Texoma RPC to 113,775 for North Central Texas RPC covering Dallas Fort Worth.
Calvin Wheateley fund treasurer reports 3162 of 2260 yet to raise for Whites Wright United Fund drive. Lloyd Bryant, a serviceman for Meator's Inc International Harvester dealer in Whitewright, finished a two day training course on hydraulic systems and tractor pitches at the International Harvester Mobile Training Unit in Sherman. Classes are small enough for personalized instruction with hands on learning.
The program trains service specialists to diagnose and fix issues in farm and industrial machinery. It emphasizes practical, ready-to-use experience so technicians can apply skills quickly after returning home. The unit supports mobile, hands on training to meet today’s demanding equipment requirements.
Sixty five pets entered the Whitewright held event on the Tom Bean School grounds Saturday. Judges included Miss Anette Snider and Mrs Wilma Edgington and Mrs Steve Sullivan. Carl Cravens won first prize in singing Chihuahua with Lori Beall second for pet monkey.
New book about Nora Dickson and Murray Dickson, lifelong volunteers in Bolivia, joins Whitewright Public Library. Memoir-style account details the Condor of The Andes honor, red poncho symbol, and two decades of sacrificial service among Altiplano Indians. Donated in honor of local families including A.M. Bryant and Roby Childress.
Denison resident Hub Brown named Grayson County Chairman for the annual Boy Scout Good Turn Day planned on May 2. The campaign expands beyond Denison to include Texoma Valley Council units and other towns like Perrin and Bells, aiming to collect Goodwill clothing bags. Brown has led Denison District activities for six years and previously worked with youth sports. he joined Texas Power and Light in 1950 as chief accountant.
