In Wimbledon England Mrs Fanny Harper marked her 103rd birthday admitting she feels old for the first time in her life. The noted centenarian reflected on her long life and memories as she reached the milestone.
Dr. Marvin Goldberg opens his medical practice in the May building on South Bend street. A South Bend native, he attended Central High School and studied at Indiana University and Butler University. He earned degrees in chemistry, bacteriology, and serology, served two years as a sergeant major in the Army, received a $1500 Bnai Brith scholarship, interned at Erie Osteopathic Hospital, and is married to Devorah Elling of South Bend.
Funeral services were held at 2 p m Monday in First Baptist Church for W H Stedham 93 of Whitewright who died Saturday night in a Sherman hospital Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery He was born June 15 1868 in Lineville Alabama married Clara Williams in Read Alabama then to Texas and Whitewright in 1911 later married Ethel Simmons Survivors include his wife three sons a daughter a step son a step daughter two sisters and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Hoyt H. Taylor 81 of Whitewright died at 12 40 a m Thursday. Retired lawyer buried at West Hill Cemetery Sherman. Born August 3 1880 in Aniston Alabama. He moved from Texarkana to Whitewright in 1955 and married Caroline Ball in Sherman in 1920. Survived by wife a nephew and a niece.
Funeral services were conducted in Pilot Point for Roy J. Taylor 56 of Aubrey who died at his home. Burial followed at Belew Cemetery near Aubrey. A retired Dallas barber born in Albany Kentucky he married Alta Rice Phillips in Texarkana in 1952 and is survived by his wife a daughter and son two stepdaughters three brothers one sister and two grandchildren.
Austin reports a new state medical plan for about 220000 elderly on welfare, funded mainly by federal aid. The program uses Blue Cross insurance with a $24 million annual cost, starting January 1, and provides defined hospital coverage with caps and exclusions for certain conditions and services.
Thieves robbed WLOK radio station safes on Labor Day and Thanksgiving, stealing 125 dollars and about 250 dollars. Station manager J F Maurer suspects further theft until Christmas.
