Baptists Plan Week of Prayer Observance at Church

The W M S of the Baptist Church will hold a Monday all day Week of Prayer event starting 10 15 in the church with devotions led by Mrs B G Gowdy and discussions on missions in Nigeria Free China the Hawaiian Islands Paraguay Mexico and Chile by a group of named ladies. An afternoon session at 1 30 features devotions by Mrs Addie Sweatt and talks on Argentina Uruguay Brazil Romania Near East and war torn China by another group of speakers. A noon covered dish luncheon will be served with hostesses named and Mrs C S Witt overseeing the mission program encouraging all members to participate and support the Lottie Moon Christmas offering.

Army to release 8 000 weekly including casual ties

Lafayette Indiana Army official Col. John Andrews said at a Purdue guidance conference that the Army will release 8 000 persons weekly including casual ties and that rehabilitation should start immediately. He spoke in place of Brig. Gen. Lewis Hershey who missed the engagement due to other business.

1000 Bombers Raid Berlin

Allied air power pounded Berlin in a massive raid with 1,000 bombers dropping over 2,600 tons of explosives start Tuesday. The attack produced huge fires and at least 10,000 dead or injured while communications with Berlin and Stockholm were cut off for hours.

Washington. Undersecretary of War Robert P. Patterson said Germany’s capture of Leros is not of great military importance but a significant answer to those predicting a weakened resolve. A 33 year old woman hid a lover for 16 months in a coffin like space under her parlor in Chelmsford Court. The lover twice suspected other men were connected. A man was seized by police on desertion from the French army. The woman was jailed for a month for concealing a deserter.
