President Truman ordered that nearly all federal appointments be temporary for national defense. Food prices fall slightly in late October report
Government data show retail food prices down about 0.4 percent in the last two weeks of October, led by declines in fresh fruits and vegetables. Prohibition Vote Sought Statewide by WCTU in Texas
SAN BENITO The Texas Chapter of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union urged a state wide prohibition vote and asked Governor Shivers to place a constitutional amendment before the next legislature. They also called on President Truman to halt beer and liquor sales to troops. WCTU president Mrs. Claude de Van Watts noted 56 percent of Texans live in dry counties and 141 counties are dry with 80 partly dry.
