The city health records show 94 births in nine months with 84 white 9 negroes and 1 Mexican and 54 female 40 male. Deaths total 38 while influenza casualties were limited locally though citywide impact was heavy. The epidemic has run its course with only scattered mild cases remaining.
Sherman judge Frank C. Dillard spoke Sunday to a large audience at the public school auditorium on the United War Work campaign. He praised all seven benevolent groups aiding soldiers, urged universal support of the war budget, and warned that peace time is a dangerous moral period for camps.
In a wartime appeal to Texans, Senator Morris Sheppard urges citizens to fund a united welfare drive for armed forces at the request of President Wilson. He praises the organizations for boosting morale, guiding soldiers, and providing wholesome recreation, urging contributions as duty and privilege.
The influenza epidemic struck the family of Mr. A. Maynard of Waxahachie during a visit to the community. His young wife and their seven month old twins, a boy and a girl, all died, while Mr. Maynard himself lies seriously ill but showing improvement. undertakers shipped the bodies to Waxahachie for interment as the community mourns.
Dr. Ross R. May will depart around the 20th for Washington D C where he will undergo several weeks of training before his posting in the Medical Corps of the Navy.
Columbus DeBerry aged and respected resident dies at his daughter Mrs W R Wilson home Sunday morning. Born December 8 1837 in Newroe Allen County Kentucky he moved to Texas 25 years ago and lived on a farm east of the city. Survived by several children and an adopted granddaughter Lucile Blanton with funeral at Oak Hill cemetery conducted by Rev A R Nash.
The Cotton Belt announces a new time card to take effect November 17 reducing service to one daily round trip. Eastbound arrives 11 15 am and westbound 4 35 pm. Whitewright residents lose the train used for county seat trips, hurting traffic and necessitating reliable jitney service to Sherman.
The Dallas Scottish Rite reunion scheduled for November 11 to 14 has been moved to December 9 to 12. The event draws many attendees from across the state including Sherman and Grayson counties where numerous members plan to attend this year.
