Chris the Boxer, cherished family guard and paper-fetcher, died at 12 after convulsions from an apparent brain tumor. He lived as a house dog with Lucky the Cocker Spaniel and was put to rest by a veterinarian after suffering eye troubles and a fatal terminal illness.
Texans will vote Saturday on six constitutional amendments with polls from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The election coincides with a Fire Department swiss steak supper at Firemen's Hall and will be held in City Hall. Amendments cover tax pooling, health services funding, veterans land bonds, police medical expense coverage, parks development bonds, and limits on non elected state duties.
The nation runs a borrowing binge totaling about 491.7 billion dollars yearly with mortgage debt rising to 271.1 billion by June. Consumer debt has quadrupled in 15 years while personal income doubled, and 1 in 7 paychecks goes to installments. Credit charges remain opaque, with retail revolving accounts at 18 percent annually.

Sherman and Denison announced Friday that an election will be held December 5 to decide on a city sales tax for the two cities. The measure has won approval in 17 cities this year and been turned down in one. Dallas Fort Worth Houston and San Antonio also set Dec 5 elections under the new law allowing up to one percent tax on items already taxed by the state. The law took effect August 28 and between 120 and 150 Texas cities with over six million residents are expected to vote by January 1.
Work has begun on U S 69 between Bells and Denison with R W McKinney Construction Co doing the project. The highway project calls for grading asphaltic concrete paving and widening of flexible base shoulders with two courses of surface treatment. McKinney bid 572110 dollars on this project.

A barn owned by J F Lilley burned Monday. Honor roll includes Dorothy Hagard Litha Hollingsworth and Anita Vestal. Mrs Jim Andrew died in Pilot Grove. A Silman Grocery lunch counter was installed. Grayson County ginned 30 105 bales of cotton by Oct 18.
The item notes 21 828 bales of cotton this season. The home of S H Jared was destroyed by fire on Monday. A chicken with one eye in the top of its head is owned by Mrs W A Sizemore of Fort Towson Oklahoma.
C C Hinton aged 79 died Saturday. Mr and Mrs J N Carter observed their 67th wedding anniversary.
The Piersons hosted a birthday dinner for their children M A and Kathleen. Bertha Mae Vaughn burned her Topeka case rather than calculate sales tax and social security tax. High School Reflector staff includes sponsor Mrs Jack Lackey editor Sarah Belle Gillett assistant editor Guy Andrew. Mrs Clint Hopper hosted a Wednesday evening shower for bride Pattie Jean Hughes.
The Whitewright Tigers meet Van Alstyne in a Friday night title game in Van Alstyne. Whitewright seeks sole champions status after an unbeaten district run while Van Alstyne has one loss to Honey Grove. Whitewright trounced Bells 62 to 0 as Cureton, Watkins, Brown and Blackerby starred in a high scoring rout with Montgomerys field goal noted.
The Presbyterian Church led by Rev. C. C. Dooley holds Sunday School at 10:00 and worship at 11:00. The Ladies Society will host a Thank Offering and praise service Monday at 2:30 at the church.
The First Baptist Church lists a nursing home service at 9 00 am a Bible study at 9 55 am worship at 11 00 am junior choir rehearsal at 5 15 pm church training at 6 00 pm and a second worship at 7 00 pm on Sunday.
