The United Fund workers will visit every residence Monday night to close the fund drive, led by campaign chairman Renee Morgan who urged residents to stay home until visited.
Gaines F. West from the Office of Civil Defense will address the PTA meeting Tuesday night at the High School. He will cover personal survival, leadership duties in schools, radiation basics, its effects on people, foods, and water, how to detect radiation, defense strategies, and shelter models. Leslie Holland plans to attend, per a Denton Civil Defense notice.
Former vice president Henry A Wallace told an agriculture school luncheon that gardening helps a long life. Now 73, Wallace, retired since the late 1940s, spends much time gardening and breeding strawberries, praising the activity for its ongoing plant development.

Grayson County agriculture official Fred Cook announced a new requirement for 1962 wheat price support. Farmers must file an intention to participate form to qualify for loans and support, with the Dec. 1 deadline to sign. Quotas were reduced about 10 percent under the 1962 allotment program, and diversion limits were outlined for conserving use.
The National Fire Protection Association estimates that U.S. fire losses over the last ten years surpassed 11.7 billion dollars. The figure reflects the broad impact of fires on communities, insurers, and public safety during the period.

G. E. Ball, longtime Tom Bean merchant in Grayson County, retires after 47 years in business. The 65 year old seller offloads stock to J. J. Chism of Howe while keeping the building and plans to focus on farming and cattle interests.
Dr. Don Howard Cook announces a new Whitewright dental office opening next Monday two doors west of the First National Bank. A University of Texas Dental College graduate, he will practice Mondays and Tuesdays, after previously serving at a Mesquite clinic. He is the son of Mrs. Howard Cook and Mrs. C. J. Meador of Whitewright. his wife is Jane Meador.
President Kennedy signaled a defense spending increase to about 50 billion dollars for the coming year. He noted a 6 billion dollar military funds rise this year and discussed resuming aerial nuclear tests if Soviet tests warrant action. He defended past missile gap criticisms and cited Eisenhower era statements as basis. Military officials had indicated a 50 billion dollar budget for the next fiscal year.
Whitesboro and Gunter FFA chapters topped the Sherman District event at Sherman High School. Whitesboro won radio broadcasting and chapter farm skills, while Gunter led in chapter conducting green hand conducting and green hand farm skills. Other results included top placements for Whitewright, Sherman, Bells, and Whitesboro in radio broadcasting, chapter conducting, green hand conducting, and green hand skills.
Gov. Price Daniel announced the reactivation of a 120 member Texas citizens group to study aging issues. Sen. Crawford Martin of Hillsboro was named chairman and Frances Allen became state coordinator of aging services. The panel will assist communities, implement 1960 conference recommendations, and report to the governor and legislature on senior citizen needs.
Whitewright plays Celina at Bryant Field in the season finale hoping for an upset. The Tigers own a 2-7 season record and 1-3 in district play, while Celina stands 4-5 overall and 2-2 in conference. Honey Grove leads 4-0 in district with Pilot Point 3-1. Whitesboro and Celina chase from mid-pack.
Rural mail carriers from the White Wright Post Office will drop livestock survey cards on routes starting November 16. The data on these cards sets the yearly inventory of livestock and poultry on Texas farms and feeds the state and national pig crop reports.
