A type II Sabin oral polio vaccine clinic is planned for November 18 from 1 to 6 p m in Grayson County. Clinics will be in Denison Sherman Perrin AFB Whitesboro Van Alstyne and Whitewright under Dr Andrew Jensen as chair. The event continues the earlier Type I effort that immunized about 50 000 people and follows no criticisms of Type II vaccine which has a clean record in the U S and Canada.
Chester Slaughter of Whitewright received a 150 cash award for sustaining superior performance over a year at Perrin Air Force Base. The 5 year carpenter in the Civil Engineering Squadron, a Navy veteran, was nominated by Sgt. White and recommended by NCOIC Joe C. Winter. Lt. Col. Breathwit presented the award noting Slaughter’s rapid, error free work and ability to train on the job.

Mrs. W H Scoggins 71 died Sunday at 1 20 p m in a Sherman hospital. Funeral services were Tuesday at Earnheart Funeral Chapel conducted by Elder H G Ball and Elder Lowell McClain. Burial followed at Pilot Grove Cemetery. Survived by husband Merle of Los Angeles two daughters Mrs Dolph Hopper and Mrs Carl Jones both of Tioga and a son Merle. Born August 13 1891 in Georgia she married Mr Scoggins August 13 1906 in Gunter and was a Tioga Primitive Baptist Church member.

Arthur Thomas Hensley 75 died Monday at his son’s home in Lubbock. Services by Wallace Mynatt at Barnhart chapel with burial in Burns Cemetery. He was born February 28, 1887 in Tennessee, married Mannie C Brown in 1914, a retired farmer. Survived by six sons, three daughters, a brother, a sister, 39 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Foster T. Bean of Kilgore district 581 Rotary International arrives tomorrow to visit the Whitewright Rotary Club. He will address members, confer with club officers on administration and service activities, and provide guidance on goals in community betterment and international understanding.
Denison Grayson County Republican chairwoman Mrs Jack Martin says the party was defeated only after Texas history making gains. She states they are not quitting and aim to bring party government to Texas, while acknowledging the state’s long one party tradition and that progress comes slowly.
Mrs. George Bateman of Garland, president of Trinity District of Texas Federation of Women's Clubs, spoke at the Friday Literary Club meeting at Mrs. C. P. Johnson's home. She outlined objectives of the state president and urged the club to adopt definite plans for community projects over the next two years.
Charles Skaggs a Democrat precinct chairman said Whitewright cast 325 votes, about 100 fewer than expected as clerks worked 13 hours to tally the last ballots. Democratic candidates led in contested races with margins around two to one. statewide amendments mostly approved but not in Whitewright. Local results include Denison dog leash ordinance and Grayson County totals with 11,200 votes cast.
