The brick building west of Kirkpatrick's drug store has been repainted interiorly and will house City Meat Market and Bane's barber shop. The current occupants have sold their space to J. W. Woosley & Son Hardware Company, which plans to move in around January 1.

Pershing Advises Army of 300 000

Washington reports General Pershing urged Congress to consider a standing army of 300000 volunteers with universal military training and a six month training period He favored combining education with training and relaxing discipline to fit democratic institutions He called for a separate bureau for army purchasing and a coordinated department for military naval and aeronautics.

Home of Jesse James Visits Fade in St. Joseph

In St. Joseph Missouri a weathered four room cottage linked to outlaw Jesse James draws few visitors. A 15 cent tour shows the room where James was shot by Bob Ford and the wall bullet hole. The aging couple hosting the site report dwindling crowds over decades and only one visitor in the last six months.

Will Cox Returns Home From Army Hospital

Will J. Cox arrived home from the San Antonio Army hospital Sunday October 26 and has been cared for by his parents Mr and Mrs W M Cox and sisters. He shows improvement taking nourishment and friends have called and will visit as his rest allows. Cox joined the colors April 27 1918 served with Co H 359th Infantry and saw front line action three times including the Argonne Forest where he was severely wounded September 26 1918.

Coal distribution under federal administration ordered

Agent D. M. Pope of the Katy is ordered to take charge of all coal consigned to dealers and industries here subject to use by the railway company. The coal miners strike and coal seizure by railroads may disrupt gin and industrial supply. The Government re establishes federal coal administration of fuel and directs distribution.

The Fuel Administration stresses the need for ample coal during the war to sustain industry and rail transportation. It expresses hope that enough coal will be mined to prevent interruptions to production and rail service.

Inauguration of Cotton Belt motor car service

The Cotton Belt added a motor car service last Sunday. Westbound car arrives at 8 46 a m and eastbound at 6 45 p m. No schedule change for the existing service, which runs west in the afternoon and returns in the forenoon. The double daily service aids city and county business and will use Katy station until Cotton Belt Station business resumes as before the war.

Prospectors Return from Western State Trip
