The Social Security Administration announced that over nine million people will receive old age and survivors benefits by November 30. Commissioner Charles I. Schottland also projected the total to exceed ten million by mid 1956, with seven million over 65 and two million under 65 including children and dependents.

Charles Skaggs of Whitewright was elected secretary of the Grayson County Farm Bureau at a directors meeting. J. C. Maples of Gunter was named president to succeed Homer Hanning of Bells, with Albert Laughlin and Ernest Embry as first and second vice presidents. The outgoing president was praised for leading growth to about 650 members, establishing a full time office, and sponsoring several county programs. The group denied a county newspaper report that the Bureau favors Taft-Hartley repeal.
New York reports indicate Eisenhower leading Stevenson by about five to four in major polls though pollsters plan hedged forecasts for the final days. Gallup and Roper show Ike ahead with undecided voters around 8 percent.
