The High School Reflector reports the Tigers dropped baseball as school nears May 27 due to six rainouts. Final record stands at five defeats and one victory.
Karen Darwin earned the Balfour Award for loyalty achievement and citizenship. Kathy Wilson received Best All-Round Girl and Most Athletic Girl honors, and played basketball four years. Scooter McCurdy lettered in basketball and football, made the All-District Football team. Mickey Meador is Best All-Round Boy. Kay Alexander won the Citizenship Award. Weldon Wilson received the Sportsmanship Award.
Homemaking girls may earn a summer credit by completing a 90 hour project in three areas. Each participant joins a group project and attends meetings. Planned FHA Workshop sessions run June 15 to 17 from 9:00 to 11:30 A.M. and Outdoor Cookery June 21 to 23 from 9:00 to 11:30 A.M. The program starts June 1 with a group conference at 9:00 A.M. in the Homemaking Department and ends June 30.
On May 17 excitement filled the school as students and faculty waited to see the new curtains during installation in the gym. The regatta blue curtains feature a large gold W with gray backdrop, and the senior class thanks all who helped make this possible.
Karen Darwins signing party on May 9 pleased seniors as they write their wills. Each senior leaves personal items or traits to classmates such as Ruthie Hendrix Magalene Robbins Bonnie Johnson and others. The list includes wills of shorthand desks study halls and taxi service highlighting school life at the time.
Attendees extend appreciation to Karen and Mr and Mrs Darwin for a fine enjoyable party with a few sore fingers from signing annuals.
The 1966 Whitewright High School graduating class and sponsors were guests at a First Baptist Church dinner hosted by Rev. and Mrs. Dale Gore. Seniors shared tributes to teachers, recalled first and second grade classmates, and expressed thanks to church leaders and local families for support and hospitality.
All twenty two members of the 1966 Senior Class enjoyed a May 12 Senior Day at Lake Texoma despite rain. Miss Neathery and Mr. Johnson and Mr. Hodge attended. Activities included water, skies, boat rides, volleyball, sand fights, a wiener roast, and a picnic lunch at the Colbert Boat Club clubhouse. The seniors thank Miss Lillian Neathery and Mr. David.
The narrative tracks a Texas class from eighth grade to senior year, naming students gained and lost each year, teachers and sponsors, and remarks on anticipated superiority. It notes Mrs. Leta Harper as favorite freshman teacher, two seniors losing and five gaining, and lists sponsors for seniors.
