Graduation exercises for the Whitewright Elementary School eighth grade will be in the gym at 8 p m Tuesday May 29. Rev Dale Gore will deliver the address. Funeral services were held for Mrs. Alice Pauline Ashinhurst Smith 35 at Barnheart funeral chapel. She died after being shot with a .22 while at her parents home in Pilot Grove. Burial followed at Pilot Grove Cemetery. Survivors include her parents a daughter and a brother.

John Hamilton Alexander died early Thursday May 17 aged 84. Services were at 3 PM Saturday at Wolfforth Methodist Church with burial in Rest Haven Memorial Park Lubbock. Survived by wife Lula son Olan Wolfforth four daughters and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. one son preceded in death in 1930. Pallbearers were grandsons.

Whitewright VFD Receives 650 From Grayson County

The Whitewright Volunteer Fire Department received 650 from Grayson County to support rural fire fighting. A year-end payment will follow, based on runs outside city limits. The debt on a 9100 fire truck, bought in 1958, was reduced to 400 by this grant.

Three Indicted By Grayson Grand Jury

A Grayson County grand jury indicted Denison teenager Michael Thompson 17 for the March 5 slaying of his aunt Blanche Ardell Thompson 45 and for murder with malice. John Sidney Garr is named as the hired bomber in the March 11 bait shop explosion. he was killed and charged posthumously with arson by explosion. Billy Bob Smith 27 of Sherman has been held since the fatal shooting of his wife Pauline 35 last Thursday at Pilot Grove.

Pettit Opens New Food Store on Highway 69 North

Bill Pettit, owner of a downtown store, opens a second Whitewright shop in the former Barkley veterinary building opposite the Humble station. Open daily 7:00 am to 10:00 pm, it stocks groceries drugs and dairy items and offers ice and a free television tube tester with tubes on hand. It marks the first such venture in Whitewright.

Cutting Horse Show At Whitewright Sunday Afternoon

A National Cutting Horse Association event will be held at the Whitewright Riding Club Arena Sunday starting at 1:00 PM. The Lone Star Cutting Horse Association presents with cattle by Wallace Wilson and Sonny Gosnell. Judges are T. S. Smith and John Hart.
