Lieut. William R. Sweeley of the Army Air Corps landed at Fort Crockett, Galveston, at 4 40 p m Tuesday after a 13 25 hour flight from Buffalo New York. The 1500 mile diagonal route with fuel stops at Louisville and Memphis set what was described as a new one day flight record using a Curtiss Falcon A plane.

Dr Hideyo Noguchi, 51, Japanese scientist connected with the Rockefeller Institute, died of yellow fever in Accra on the Gold Coast of Africa. He identified the fever's cause while in Africa and had helped develop a smallpox vaccine, isolation of pathogens for infantile paralysis and trachoma, linked syphilis to paresis, and worked on rabies treatment.

Confederate Veteran D J Mize Dies at 83 in Whitewright
T. J. Mize aged 83 Confederate veteran died Tuesday at his home after a long illness. Funeral held at Presbyterian Church at 4 PM with Rev J W Willbanks and Rev W A Kirkpatrick. Buried in Oak Hill Cemetery. Born in Alabama March 20 1845 he joined the Confederate army at 18 and was captured near the end of the war. He lived in Fannin County and Bells before moving to Whitewright twelve years ago. Survived by a brother in Alabama and several grandchildren in Alabama, plus sister-in-law Miss Ann Byers who resided with the family. His wife died two years ago.
