Dr. Paul E Geers progresses on a new clinic on West Main Street west of his home. The 22 room facility will include offices laboratory surgery X ray equipment and four beds with space for a dentist and another physician. Occupancy planned for July marks his third year in Whitewright.
The Whitewright Parent-Teacher Association holds its regular monthly meeting at the high school at 7 30 p m on Tuesday May 13. Principal business includes election and installation of officers for the next school year. A guest musical program provides entertainment and all members are urged to attend.
Study by Dr. Ernest L. Wynder and Dr. Frank R. Lemon reports Adventists who abstain from tobacco and alcohol show one tenth the lung cancer rate of the general male population. Among 8,128 non Adventists 118 cases. Adventists had only one case. The group studied 8,692 patients in eight Adventist hospitals, including 564 Adventists.
Madison Wis Wisconsin tops the nation in high school graduation, with over 80 percent of students earning diplomas. The state coordinating committee for higher education cites a national average of 65 percent, while Minnesota and Michigan follow at 74.9 percent and 71.6 percent respectively.

The American Association of Fund-Raising Counsel reports religious construction and remodeling reached a record 868 million dollars in 1957, up 13 percent from 1956. Hospital work rose to 505 million, up 54 percent, while educational building held at 519 million, down 3 percent.

John Henry Harvey 67 died suddenly at his Whitewright home. Funeral services are at 4 p m Friday at First Baptist Church conducted by Rev Fred Waldrop and Rev James Harrell. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery directed by Earnheart Funeral Home. Surviving are his wife 14 sons 3 daughters 3 brothers 3 sisters 47 grandchildren 12 great grandchildren.

Hot Dogs with Chili and Baked Beans on Wednesday. Claud McKinney of Van Alstyne conducted the installation and spoke on WSCS work.
A 74 year old New York congressman Ralph W. Gwinn says organized labor dominates Congress and plans to retire to rally business leaders. He cites 1956 election activity, Americans for Democratic Action support, and large union treasuries as political power drivers. He notes Taft Hartley passage would be impossible today with union alignment. He is expanding research to map labor influence nationwide including Texas.
