Denison Captures Nazi War Prisoner Dahner After Escape
Denison police arrested Ludwig Dahner, a German POW who escaped a Horseshoe Ranch work camp near Hickory Oklahoma, in the 200 block South Rusk at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday after locals grew suspicious when he asked for food. Dahner, 28 or older, wore a khaki uniform and civilian shirt, claimed to be heading to Mexico, and professed strong loyalty to Hitler while criticizing Allied bombings and war news as propaganda. He was born in Vienna, said he was German by speech and race, and served four years in the army with the rank of corporal. The FBI had led a nationwide search since his escape. Dahner explained he would not stay a prisoner voluntarily and offered odd comments to residents and a taxi driver during the capture.
