The Sun is crowded with political ads as candidates wind up campaigns. A new lake south of Tom Bean draws anglers to catch black bass and catfish, with Willard Young promoting minnows and fishing supplies.
Congressman Bruce Alger complains Dallas newspapers ignore his weekly news letters. He argues the letters are gimmicks to brainwash readers and keep his name before voters. He compares his practice with Sam Rayburn who never sent such letters in decades of service.
The First Sunday Singing Convention will be held at Messengers Chapel Methodist Church east of Denison near Carpenter's Bluff with all singers requested to attend. Mr. Humphreys is in charge. Laws establishing Texas public school systems were signed January 31, 1854.
David Johnson the elementary school principal has scheduled Friday May 11 as the annual pre school day. The event helps parents of children entering school for the first time learn about the local system and gives kids a preview of school life before next September. The program runs from 1 to 2 45 p m and Johnson urges all eligible parents to attend with their children.
Washington reports a fierce, partisan fight over Kennedy’s Social Security medical care plan for the elderly. Administration allies press for passage through Ways & Means while the AMA opposes. Kennedy and AMA clashed at the White House with no resolution. McCormack calls national sentiment strongly in favor.
Funeral services for J. R. Rumzy Oliver 74 were held Tuesday at Earnheart chapel with Rev. Fred Waldrop of Gainesville officiating. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery. Oliver died Sunday in a Sherman hospital after a long illness. Born May 11 1887 on the Oliver farm north of Whitewright he was a leading hog cattle and seed dealer and a former top Duroc Jersey producer. He was a Baptist Church member and is survived by a sister Mrs W J Davis of Celina plus several nieces and nephews.
Dr H V Reeves 83 longtime Whitewright native and Santa Fe physician died last Thursday in El Campo where he had practiced since 1918 Funeral services were held there Saturday He was born southwest of Whitewright to William and Annie Warden Reeves His wife Jessie Matthews of Bells survived along with a daughter Isabelle Westmoreland of Providence Rhode Island a son H V Reeves Jr of Santa Fe New Mexico two brothers Ed Reeves of Abilene Joe Reeves of Whitewright a sister Nora McDonald of Merkel a half brother Call Reeves of Durant Oklahoma and four half-sisters Blannie Icy Foy Reeves of Fort Worth and Mrs Grandy Sanders of Dallas
Robert Keith Everheart four year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Everheart of Bells died in a Dallas hospital. Services were held last Thursday at Bells Methodist Church with Rev. Joe McClain and Rev. Philip Roberson. Burial followed at Rose Hill Cemetery. Survived by parents a brother James Wade Everheart and grandparents Mrs. Wade Everheart and Mrs. Lela McElligott plus several uncles and aunts.

Bethel area split between Whitewright and Pilot Grove.
New Orleans orthopedic surgeon Dr. Daniel C. Riordan warned in Dallas that power lawn mowers cause severe injuries including loss of fingers toes and limbs. He urged safety courses and warned that debris can act like bullets. Children should stay indoors and a 50 foot clearing is advised.
Sherman resident Neilson Rogers was elected president of the Grayson County Bar Association at a Friday meeting in the 15th District Courtroom. New officers include Olan R. Van Zandt as vice president Joe Wolfe as secretary and Frank Roark Jr as treasurer. A June 1 dinner at Woodlawn Country Club will install the officers. Gifts announced for the Grayson County Law Library include The Texas Law Review Words and Phrases and Blashfield Encyclopedia of Automobile Law and Procedure. The group aims to improve the library as the courthouse addition is under construction.
President Kennedy signed a bill authorizing a large Peace Corps expansion. The measure allows $63.75 million to recruit 9,970 volunteers by fall 1963, growing from about 900 now to 2,400 by June 30 and 5,100 next fall, with funds to be provided in separate legislation. Also notes Texas higher education began with Rutgersville University in 1840.
Dr. Paul Geers announced that North Texas Construction Co. of Sherman won the bid to build a nursing home in Whitewright. The 15,000 square foot brick structure on South Bend Street will house 80 patients, be air conditioned, and funded by the Small Business Administration and Grayson County State Bank. Construction begins next week, with 120 working days, at a total project value around 160 thousand dollars including equipment and air-conditioning. Cary-Taylor Corp. will supply equipment with Fort Worth National Bank financing. About 25 people will be employed plus 18 aides and two cooks will be hired soon.
