Rev E P Wootten, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Whitewright for seven years and three months, resigns to take the pastorate of Bethany Baptist Church in Houston. He will begin the new duties the first Sunday in June. He came from Nevada where he led a Baptist church. Under his leadership Whitewright church saw gains in membership and attendance. He says he enjoyed Whitewright but moves to a larger field with more opportunities.

Booster Banquet Set at Whitewright High School Gym
The Whitewright Booster Club will hold its first annual banquet in the high school gym at 8 p m on Thursday May 15. Tom Sears reports the program is complete and 150 attendees are expected with tickets priced at 1 50. Marshall Hasty notes tickets should be bought before May and no sales after the quota. A board of directors for the ensuing term will be elected with two holdovers and seven new members.

Sherman announces that David M. Brown, UT law graduate and former Army lieutenant, will be Grayson County Court at Law’s first judge. Gov. Tornado Sweeps Rockwall Area With Fatalities
A Texas tornado moved southeast near Rockwall killing two people and injuring another in a highway crash near Rowlett. Victims were Jerry Husk of Alice and Clay B Neese of Houston. A panel truck carrying the Husks and Neese was hurled into a telephone pole. Rockwall was isolated as power and telephones failed. Small tornadoes also hit Clower near Grand Saline injuring six and damaging Mahank in Kaufman County. Across the region, fires, damaged farms, and widespread outages followed the storms.
