Notes from Sherman area residents report hospital patients and visits in Bonham McKinney Dallas and Sherman. Families and clubs gather for church study and community events while residents travel to see relatives and attend services. Luther Gordon suffers paralysis and is hospitalized in Sherman.
Sherman Rotary Club heard a two part program by Camp Fire girls. The first part described Camp Fire aims and activities while the second featured a style show with the girls modeling real fashion. Tip Newell brought the group. Tom Sears served as program chairman. Clint Hennig presided in John Biggerstaff’s absence.
Mrs. Joe Stephens announces the marriage of her daughter Wilma Lou to Horace A Baker son of Mr and Mrs C E Baker of Sherman route one They wed Saturday March 22 in Durant Oklahoma The bride is a senior at Whit ewright High School He is a Sherman High School graduate from 1951 and works in Sherman They will live in Whitewright until school ends.
A bridal shower for Mr and Mrs Gary Bandy was hosted at the bride’s parents’ home, Mr and Mrs Ray Hopkins, on March 22. Games led by Mrs Kenneth Hopkins awarded the bride’s cookbook to Mrs James Jarvis and the bridal bouquet to Mrs D F Bandy.
William Alvis McDowell Jr. son of Alvis and Mrs McDowell of Sulphur Springs was ordained to preach at the First Baptist Church of Sulphur Springs at 3 p m Sunday March 9 East Delta Baptist Church has named him pastor He is a junior history student at East Texas State College Commerce and was chosen as a summer missionary of the Baptist General Convention of Texas to teach Bible courses and help with Vacation Bible Schools in Hawaii.
A wedding reception featured bridal cake squares with wedding bell decorations and green punch served to 21 guests. Out of town guests included Mr and Mrs F E Washburn of Bellis and Mr and Mrs Kenneth Hopkins and their son from Sherman.
The Senate Rackets Investigating Committee says about 10 million dollars in union funds were stolen embezzled or misused over 15 years by five unions including Teamsters Bakery Workers United Textile Workers Operating Engineers and Allied Industrial Workers. Senator McNamara called the money figures phony and accused the majority of anti labor bias in a dissenting addendum.
