Voting Regulation Changes Expand 18 as Minimum Voting Age
The 26th Amendment effective July 1971 lowers the voting age to 18 and extends registration validity to three years. Voters may keep their registration when staying in the same county, but must reregister if moving counties or transfer to a new precinct, with deadlines before elections. City voting requires six months residence and county registration by the 31st day before city elections.
