O'Daniel Pension Bill Fails in Texas House
Gov. W. Lee O'Daniel's social security finance bill faced a 71 to 62 defeat in the Texas House after an earlier 71 to 63 vote to move it to floor action. The measure would be dead for the session unless a two-thirds vote suspended House rules, ending any chance for Senate consideration and easing political pressure on lawmakers. The tabling motion, pushed by Rep. G. C. Morris of Greenville, ends the effort for now.
