A total of 1.93 inches of rainfall has been registered at the city water plant. March 3 brought .74, March 9 .54, March 10 .31, and March 11 .34 inches. For 1935 to date total rainfall is 7.28 inches with January 3.65 and February 1.70. Farmers say ground is breaking for the season as wells fill and springs run.
The House approved a measure to provide 1.75 billion dollars to the Home Owners Loan Corporation to aid mortgage distressed homeowners. The bill heads to the Senate after Banking Committee adds 250 million and sets a sixty day filing window.
Texas relief commission announces emergency seed loans funded by the Federal Emergency Relief Administration for spring planting of commercial and forage crops. Funeral services were held for JW Kay 13 son of Mr and Mrs Bonnie Kay after an accidental discharge of a .22 rifle during a play hunt. Doyle and Hammond Harding, neighborhood friends, joined JW in a hayloft game when JW asked Is it loaded. The rifle went off striking him in the heart. He died soon after at home. He leaves two sisters and other relatives.
The Texas Senate approved a plan to repeal the ary clause of the state Constitution on its ninth day of debate by 27 to 0 and sent submission to the House. The measure would bar open saloons on liquor, let the Legislature set beer and wine alcohol levels, and allow a state monopoly option, with liquor sold in sealed packages only.
Marion Wilson the county administrator said all county relief clients must re register at once at district offices in Sherman Denison Whitewright Whitesboro and Van Alstyne unless they recently did so. The move follows FERA advice to re register all eligible to tailor aid and match skilled workers to suitable relief projects in the area.
National Industrial Conference Board estimates show living costs for wage earners rose 1 percent from January to February 1935, with food up 2 percent and rents up 0.7 percent. Clothing fell about 1 percent, fuel and light unchanged, and the dollar’s purchasing value dipped to 121.4 in February from 127.7 a year earlier.
