Tax deadline Monday March 15 marks the final date to file income tax returns and pay the first quarter installment. Must file if gross income of 500 dollars or more for individuals or 1200 dollars or more for married couples, regardless of tax due. Gross income includes all money received from any source. Penalties for failure to file can be severe.
Moscow broadcast of Ed Stettinius Jr statement lists US shipments to Russia and Britain under lend lease. He cited 3200 tanks and 2600 aircraft as of Jan 1 plus 81000 trucks and other gear. Ambassador Standley urged Russian press acknowledgment of US assistance.
Washington reports that men over 38 will be moved from 4-H to regular draft classes and may be classified 1-A (H) or 2-B (H) or 3-A (H). The plan aims to spur farming by May 1 with farm deferments for those who take up or continue farming.
President Roosevelt asked Congress to adopt a wide ranging postwar program aimed at full employment and expanded cradle to grave social security. The plan calls for government partnership in key industries, rail consolidation, highways, air transport and basic metals with a new Bill of Rights including the right to work and to security.
Manning and Meador pact includes a 50 foot two story Main street building known as the May building and a land block 142 by 160 feet north of it from the City of Whitewright. They plan a tractor repair shop warehouse and display area with stock to move from the Truett building where they have operated over 25 years.

The Legion condemns the congressman for claiming the president’s soldier sons were favored and jerked from front lines. The group vows to atone for their role in Lambertson’s election.
Secretary Wickard announced farmers may increase their 1943 cotton planting allotments by 10 percent to boost vegetable oils and protein feed from cottonseed. Quotas remain in place and excess production faces a tax. overplanting is allowed but benefits apply to original allotments.
An Office of Price Administration probe into misuse of supplementary rations begins in Dallas County. OPA manager W A Orth urges bookholders to surrender B and C books to local war price and rationing boards if no longer needed. He warns of possible investigation and penalties for misuse. Texas' greatest east to west distance is 773 miles.
A Senate committee heard that the nations armed services may reach 15 million men by year end, up from 11 million, under the Austin-Wadsworth plan to mobilize civilians for production. An appropriations subcommittee cited Taft predicting all 3-A registrants could be inducted by midsummer.
