Provisions of Glass Steagall Banking Act Summary
The Glass Steagall Act sets rules for banks including a federal deposit insurance fund to cover member banks from 1934 and possible coverage for non members until 1936. It creates a Federal Open Market Committee, authorizes Treasury to subscribe 150 million dollars, and limits bank activities with securities and brokers. It also allows certain branch operations, consolidations, and later prohibits depository services for underwriters. A domestic exchange on Fiji Islanding prompts a separate dialogue about wives' sale.
