Most Women War Workers Hope For Peacetime Jobs
The U S Labor Department's Women's Bureau finds many women want to keep working after the war and seek peacetime jobs in industry. Surveys in Detroit and Buffalo show high plans to continue employment, with many supporting dependents and wanting to earn a living independent of veterans. Employment rises from 11,260,000 in 1940 to 17,750,000 by April 1945, while unemployment falls from 1,830,000 to 340,000.
