Sugar shortages feared worldwide for 1945 and 46
The Department of Agriculture warned of critical sugar shortages this year due to distribution issues. Gustave Burmeister said exports will shrink for importing countries while surpluses in producing regions stay high, and reserves head toward a bare minimum by end 1945. He predicted 1946 consumption must come from current production.

Auto makers start but long wait ahead
Detroit report says major U S automobile makers have completed master pilot models for 1946 cars while actual assembly line production is months away. Even with 2,000,000 passenger vehicles allowed before July 1 1946 scarcity due to government priority will linger. Prices not yet announced though higher, and the first new model changes center on front end styling. A few cars may ship within weeks after July 1 but mass production facilities will need time to ramp up. In Texas a Civil War veteran’s will is carved on his tombstone at Nacogdoches.
