The Whitewright Riding Club will stage its annual Quarter Horse Show at the local arena starting 12 noon on Sunday June 7. Travis Ward of Hope Arkansas will judge with Dick Walker as show manager. Halter events precede performing events including cutting roping reining barrel racing pole bending and western pleasure. Youth classes exist for barrel racing pole bending and western pleasure with trophies for each event and ribbons through sixth place. Admission is free and the club invites all to attend.
Funeral services were held at 2 30 p m Saturday in Trenton for Mrs Clarence West 46 of Trenton Route 1 who died Thursday in Sherman hospital of a brain hemorrhage Burial was in Burns Cemetery at Trenton Ministers Rev LeRoy Martin Sherman and Rev Robert Moore presided Earnheart Funeral Home of Whitewright handled arrangements Mrs West born May 4 1918 in Lamar County daughter of Mr and Mrs W M Franklin She married Mr West Jan 8 1948 and was a member of the Assembly of God Church Surviving are her husband one daughter Linda Kay West of Trenton three brothers Jess Franklin Whitewright Ben Franklin Trenton Major Franklin Denison and a sister Mrs Lloyd Martin Addison.
G. C. Allen aged 85 of Commerce and formerly Cannon community died recently. Born Oct 6, 1878 in Alabama, he married Ethel Powell in 1901. Surviving are two daughters, three sons, a sister, and 12 grandchildren.
