Claims Texas truck lines pay own way in taxes

The Common Carrier Motor Freight Association argues that commercial motor vehicles pay far more to Texas coffers in taxes than highways costs. Using 1933 data, they show per mile highway costs at 311.90 versus taxes paid at 720.49, with total ad valorem and license taxes for railroads and trucks contrasted. They note 1933 truck taxes exceeded railroad payments and cite later years showing growing gasoline tax and license revenue from motor trucks.
