Chinese Cotton Acreage Larger Indicates Increase in 1934
Agricultural Commissioner Owen L. Dawson says China will lift cotton acreage by 5 to 10 percent this year, with most gains in North China due to favorable prices and spring conditions. 1933 plantings reached 6,025,000 acres yielding 2,684,000 bales. Early Manchuria reports show acreage about double last year but poor weather trimmed actual cotton area, making increased production uncertain. Brazil holds 1934 crop forecast at 830,000 bales versus 408,000 in 1933, per P. K. Norris.
