Whitewright hosts a Saturday afternoon hunt on July 26 where five Red Seal merchants hide a prize. Participants must locate the Red Seal, learn the names of the merchants, and answer correctly to win $5 in Red Seal money. A friendly town frolic with banners and stores participating.
New York reports show cotton jumping 180 to 200 points as the government forecast boosts values. Prices for October reach 27.65 with trading restricted by exchange rules. Washington releases a semi monthly forecast placing this year’s crop at 11,934,000 bales with state by state condition readings and notes on rainfall and pests.
Announcement that the primary department children will render a cantata in the church main auditorium at 11 o clock Sunday morning with assistance from the choir.
The Whitewright Independent School District increases transfer tuition as maintenance taxes rise. New six week rates apply: Primary 5.00 dollars, Intermediate 6.50 dollars, High School 8.00 dollars. Transfers receive three months free before charges begin. See board president Lloyd Moore, secretary F. E. Douglas, or Supt. H. L. Durham to arrange before September 1.
W M Butler, chairman of the Republican national committee and personal manager of Coolidge's campaign, served notice that the Republican nominee is prepared to wage the campaign on personalities if needed. Butler said Coolidge is ready to fight for continuation in office along any lines or with any weapons opponents may choose.
Senator La Follette and Senator Wheeler will launch the third ticket campaign touring the Eastern seaboard and New England then moving west and south to every state. Representative John M. Nelson, national manager for La Follette, announced the plan today.
Los Angeles July 22 Jack Dempsey the world heavyweight champion has an injured right arm from a Sunday night automobile accident at San Juan Capistrano. Doctors report a dislocated right elbow strained neck ligaments knee abrasions and a scalp cut.
Rev J F Fender has returned from Rock Point near Honey Grove after a successful revival meeting He will preach at the regular hour Sunday morning at the Presbyterian church.
Copenhagen reports Dr. Mikkel Hindehide, nutrition specialist, blames civilization for more cancer cases. He argues noncultured peoples avoid digestive cancer until adopting fleshpot dining and says higher living standards in the last 50 years drive higher death rates.
Mercedes Williams the six year old daughter of Henry Williams was killed when struck by a passing car in Rocky Oklahoma near Hobart. The child died eleven hours after the accident as relatives and townspeople mourned. Funeral services were held at Biggersstaff home with Elder W N Carter and Rev J A Dickey. Interment was at the family plot west of town.
Fourteen year old Miles Chumbley, son of Mr and Mrs Robert Chumbley of Kentuckytown, suffered serious burns to his chest left arm and right hand after striking a match from a pocket while washing his hands near gasoline. Neighbors quickly helped douse the flames preventing greater injury.
Belton July 23 Fire close on Roy Mitchell manager of the Texas League Dallas Steers after Steer Park fire in Dallas Sunday and Live Oak Dairy barn fire here causing about 5000 loss. Cause undetermined. Dr C L Pickett arrived from the Philippines to report on twenty years as medical missionary.
The revival at Marvin Methodist Church east of town ended last Sunday. Rev W A Stuckey pastor conducted the gathering and several additions to the church roll were announced during the meeting.
The Whitewright district committee, facing unfavorable conditions, decided not to hold a complete fall fair. To avoid conflicting dates and cotton picking timing, they will instead stage a series of farm exhibits and a poultry show over a longer period with special events to be announced soon.
H C Willis who fell from a tree while helping neighbor Joe Hamilton gather peaches last Thursday sustained a broken arm and shoulder injuries. He was taken to a sanitarium for treatment and has returned home as he recovers, with friends hoping for a full recovery in due time.
County chairman B F Gafford announces no run off in county races. Run offs will occur in commissioners races Precincts 2 and 3 Whitewright Denison Collinsville, and in Whitesboro Gordonville public weigher races. State races will have run offs if no majority is reached.
Newton Connecticut July 23 Mrs Nora Bradley Kane 109 died after a week of illness. She never saw a doctor and did not suffer illness until recently. Her motto Work hard and leave the rest to God was a frequent refrain she shared with friends.
Dear Editor J R Boss Fleming reports a June departure from Fort Worth for California with stops in El Paso Mexico and Los Angeles. He toured Long Beach Catalina Islands Hollywood and the Sunken Gardens on a glass bottom boat meeting his son Will Fleming. He plans to sail to San Francisco Salt Lake City and Colorado Springs while noting pleasant cool weather and daily swims.
Lynch Davidson proposes using convict labor for highway work to cut road construction costs by at least 50 percent. He would repurpose state buildings to house the insane for ten years, build a modern prison plant in Austin for unfit convicts, and claim the program would save money and leave 2.5 million dollars for Texas Treasury.
The revival led by Evangelist C. E. Wallace in Temple continues with six total services planned, including three this coming Sunday at 11 am 3:30 pm and 8:15 pm. A basket dinner follows the 11 o clock session at Heard Grove. Visiting ministers F. L. Young Jesse P. Sewell John E. Dunn and J. F. Smith attended the 3:30 meeting.
J. C. Gillespie, manager of the Hudson Davis & Co. store, departs for Eastern markets. He will visit New York then return via Chicago and St. Louis, aiming to buy the largest stock the firm has carried in years to meet expected fall business.
Herbert Watson, a Black man, wrecked the automobile en route to a Whitewright picnic on a Sherman road bridge. Several passengers escaped serious injury. Watson spent two nights in the local jail and was moved to Sherman Monday by Deputy Sheriff J C Ayres for reckless driving complaint.
Macon July 23. Peach growers in Middle and Southern Georgia discard about 4 million bushels over 10 days as markets glut and prices fall. Only Elbertas may ship. crop is 3 000 to 5 000 cars. Prices in New York crates fall to 60 cents. growers fear further losses and may dump more unless prices rise.
A July 23 fire in Farmersville started at the rear of a north square book store owned by Metha Millican and caused total loss of stock and building owned by T. C. Williams. Ed Bivins Shoe Store Hayden's Grocery and W. T. Cook Dry Goods suffered smoke and water damage as McKinney and Greenville fire crews fought the blaze.

Milwaukee report says two Salvation Army children, Alex 8 and Theodore 6, sons of Ensign Alex Thomas of Kansas City, died from carbon monoxide while asleep in a car en route from Beloit to Army Lake. Parents discovered them upon reaching Army Lake.
