Mayor F M Echols reports Whitewright's new 1200-foot deep well is in service since July 7 and the water tests as good with no contamination. The system now combines old and new wells delivering 220 gallons per minute, reducing lift costs and safeguarding fire insurance rates, funded by 8000 dollar improvements to be repaid in five and a half years.

747-POUNDER DIES IN ROOM AT CARNIVAL
Johnny Webb a 32 year old 747 pound professional fat man died Tuesday in his quarters at a Washington carnival. Physicians attributed the death to disorders from extreme weight. Webb a lifelong circus performer from Altoona Pennsylvania had toured with carnivals since age three when he weighed 150 pounds. His vast girth required a coffin five feet wide. High walls and windowless ground floors are the rule in Albania.

WPA project on the four and a half mile Whitewright Ely road will be finished this week with final touch ups and rock placements to protect embankments. The route links Whitewright to Ely and Ector, expanding an all weather trafficway from U S Highway 69 to U S Highway 82. Blacktop not funded yet but will be pursued as rock base hardens. Local officials praise the progress and Commissioner C C Norwood is noted for strong support.

132 Miles Rural Power Lines Built In Fannin County
Bonham news notes 132 miles of rural power lines built by Fannin County Electric Co operatives extending into Grayson and Collin Counties. The system will serve about 600 customers with nearly 400 farm homes now supplied and awaits REA allotment to expand into eastern Fannin and neighboring counties. Legion Picnic Draws Thousands for Five Day Event
The American Legion five day picnic closed last Saturday after a highly successful run that netted a substantial profit for the local post. Weather was mostly favorable with a Friday scare but rain held off, and Saturday night attracted the largest crowd. Denison night, candidates night, and Sherman night featured bands, speeches by Senator Connally, and several state candidates who did not all appear. Fireworks marked the end of the celebration.

A and M Seeks Greater Appropriation For Growth
A and M college officials told the Board of Control they seek a large budget raise for the next biennium citing enrollment growth. Main college requests total 1. six million over two years with 1.249 million for resident instruction and 1.038 million for salaries. They project 2,309 upper level students at 225, 3,784 freshmen and sophomores at 175, and 2,692 technical students at 25. Enrollment has risen from 2,077 in 1932-33 to an estimated 5,700 in 1938-39, necessitating 99 new teaching positions and 275,000 for utility hookups for new dormitories funded federally. Vaughan Starts New Road Project to Benefit Whitewright Area
County commissioner Ben Vaughan, a WPA participant, funds and sponsors a multi mile road program east of the Whitewright Bells route and west to Pink Hill. The plan adds 16 to 17 miles serving Whitewright, Rose Hill, Tom Bean and Oak Hill Cemetery with easier curves and WPA labor for about a year. Whitewright cooperates to extend a state and federal highway network for farms, mail, and school routes.
