A larger Third Monday Trades Day is planned for July 17 with a 10 a.m. parade led by the Whitewright band featuring saddle horses, mules and brood mares. A free rodeo will follow in the afternoon with bucking stock. Owners of saddle horses invited to enter, merchants offer bargains, and auction services will be provided free at the trading lot.
Sherman directors and Sherman Chamber of Commerce members met to back the Van Alstyne oil test by taking a Sherman block near the site. The block will be sold by a committee of Sherman businessmen with Ed Langford and L A Rodden set to manage more acreage. Vern Dumas, owner of the test, drew strong floor support amid hopes the well’s success would boost Sherman and the county.
Oklahoma voters approve 3.2 percent beer with a 356 136 total. 94 718 margin. Off premises sale begins after Governor Murray proclaims legality. Tulsa and Oklahoma Counties vote wet. many counties opposed. Indian Territory sale legalized under federal act as non intoxicating.
Congressman Joseph W. Bailey Jr. will speak at the American Legion picnic Friday at 3 30 p.m. on repealing the 18th Amendment and legalizing 3 2 beer in Texas. Rev G C French of Dallas speaks Thursday at 4 30 p.m. against beer, both drawing large crowds amid August election interest on three beer related questions.
Federal officials said bread prices have risen unjustifiably in many areas and handed numerous new complaints to the attorney general for possible antitrust action. Increases cited reach up to 4 cents, while policy suggests loaf cost should not rise more than about 14 percent.

The daytime Western Union Telegraph Office is moved from the Katy Cotton Belt interlocking plant to the Katy depot. Katy Agent D E Low handles messages, with C I Witt on night duty from 8 pm to 5 am, aside from a midnight lunch hour. Witt takes night shifts. Low covers remaining hours. Low, a veteran telegrapher, has deep roots in station agent work and telegraphing in Iowa.
Gross Alexander and his son Manuel were overcome by gas while digging a 16 foot deep well on the Alexander farm three miles south of town. Refused rope rescues and delayed help nearly cost them their lives before both were revived by physicians.
Pete Pompas a 24 year old man in San Antonio dozed off during a shave and woke with a frightened start. The barber had to sew nine stitches to reattach Pete’s nose to his face after the scare.
D A Ray, a Springtown schoolmate of Governor Bill Murray, stayed at the Oklahoma City governor’s mansion with his daughter Mrs Hazel Ray McKenzie. They shared memories of their days together 46 years ago and examined old group pictures of the student body.
Sidney Watson of the Texas-Louisiana Power Company Whitewright office wins $10 for June by leading district gains in merchandise sales. The contest runs three months with $10 prizes each month and a $25 grand prize for the top three month gain.

Dossey daughter of Mr and Mrs W W Dossey of Whitewright ranks among 19 students at Texas State College for Women in a 1300 student body to make all A s and B s except physical education for the spring term Her name is on the dean s special honor roll with standards higher than honor graduation She was a junior last year majoring in foods and is a member of the Chaparral Literary Society
Judge B. D. Sartin of Wichita Falls will speak in Whitewright next Wednesday night at 8 15 in the business district. The event is hosted by the Grayson County prohibition campaign with Dr T S Clyce of Sherman as chairman. Sartin a noted Texas lawyer has long supported prohibition and will address the public.
A. J. Waldrom of west of Bells suffered a badly broken leg when he jumped from a moving truck Wednesday morning. A rear wheel passed over his leg above the ankle. He received first aid at Whitewright and was transported by ambulance to a Sherman hospital.
Severe hot spell grips Texas with readings from Longview to Vernon reaching near or above 115 as Dallas records two heat deaths and crops suffer. Thermometer clashes hinder exact Whitewright high. Sherman 108, Bonham 106, Denton 105, Farmersville 111, Paris 107 indicate statewide heat around 106 in Whitewright Tuesday and similar on Wednesday.
The local cotton reduction drive ended with most Whitewright farmers holding contracts. Grayson County saw 125 contracts signed for about 1600 acres. Fannin County committees in Ely and Trenton handled much of the cross territorial cotton, with over 200 contracts potentially under local control. overall, the campaign is labeled a success with cotton prices up about 4.5 dollars per bale.
New York reports heavy buying as cotton rose about 4.50 a bale in late trading. Government plans to retire roughly 10 million acres from cultivation spurred demand from long and short positions amid upbeat Washington advices.
New Whitewright Rotary officers were installed at Friday's meeting with R T Pennington as president and Fred W Smith as vice president. Officers include John Silman Jr secretary W E LaRoe treasurer and four directors. Hooper delivered the attendance trophy after a flawless four month record. D E Low led the luncheon program and Rev A W Yell spoke on current events as Clyde Johnson played piano.
Washington reports a historic low in 1932 with 7.87 marriages per 1,000 people, marking a 7.5 percent drop to 981,759 marriages. The rate has never fallen below 8.5 per 1,000 in the 1887–1932 record.
The American Legion picnic at Heard Park features Bill Hames Carnival Shows with a large midway, eight riding devices, a wild animal show in fourteen cages, and acts like a 10 in one pit show, Giggle Alley, rodeo, outlaw wax figures, minstrel show, and various stands. Prohibition speakers will address audiences from a north of midway platform as crowds expect large attendance over the final three nights.
Grayson County officials consider delaying a county beer election until before August 6 while studying the statute. A petition with about 801 names seeks a county referendum on 3.2 percent beer and wine alongside the statewide election on August 26, with Whitewright Bells Whitesboro and Denison among towns represented and many Sher man residents signing. If both state and county vote wet, beer sales would be restricted to Sherman and Denison precincts.
A Patterson New Jersey toddler named Charles Norman Jr. reportedly began smoking after smelling his father’s cigar at 14 months. Now aged two, he allegedly consumes two to three cigars daily, according to his parents.
Lansing Michigan Governor William A Comstock signed an old age pension bill offering up to one dollar a day for indigent residents aged 70 or over and imposing an annual head tax on all residents between 21 and 70.
