U S COTTON ACREAGE SHOWS SHARP UPTURN
The Agriculture Department said July 1 cotton acreage rose to 21 389 000 acres, up 17.6 percent from last year, versus 24 517 000 average for 10 years. Texas reports its largest cotton area since 1942 at 8 365 000 on July 1, about one third higher than a year ago, with moisture favors in the high plains boosting seeding and germination.

Dooley Wins Senate Okay For Amarillo Judge
Washington D C The Senate confirmed Joe B Dooley of Amarillo as North Texas Federal Judge by a 48 to 36 vote six months after nomination. The debate featured W Lee O Daniel opposing the appointment with strong Democratic and Republican allies on both sides. Connally led the confirmation effort with backing from 34 Democrats and 13 Republicans while O Daniel failed to stop the nomination after a recommital motion was rejected 46 to 39. Motor Number Law To Insure Vehicle Titles In Texas
A new law from the Fiftieth Legislature aims to end title confusion when motors are exchanged in cars and trucks. Titles follow motor numbers, so owners must have new numbers die stamped on unnumbered motors, preventing ownership disputes.
