Texas Senate rejects child labor constitutional amendment
The Texas Senate voted 19 to 10 to refuse to ratify the federal child labor amendment. The vote upheld an earlier 7 to 4 committee recommendation against ratification. Senator T. J. Holbrook called the move dead for the session. Senator Olan R. Van Zandt urged a direct vote on ratification.

New Oil Test West of Denison Begun

December figures show 55 270 unemployable relief clients in Texas an estimated 225 000 people or 20 99 percent of the state caseload. Breakdown: 39 percent over 65 not health certified 18 269 under 65 unable to work 11 399 women on mothers aid 3 767 other. Total December relief costs 577 973 63 dollars.

Labor presses broad old age pension plan reform
William Green of the American Federation of Labor urged the Senate finance committee for a minimum old age pension of 50 dollars a month and full liberalization of unemployment insurance. Race Horses Did It Texas Man Dies After Poison Note
K. W. Alford, 43, blamed race horses in a suicide note found after he slumped in a hotel lobby. The note, inside a poison box, urged repeal of gambling laws and mentioned mercy for his soul. He worked for an oil company and left a wife and five daughters.

A shipment of 12 000 1935 license tags for passenger cars has arrived at the Grayson County tag office. Numbers in Grayson County during 1935 will range from 415 751 to 427 750. The plates feature a maroon background with white numerals and go on sale February 1, announced by Fred Holloway deputy in charge of auto registrations.

Death toll from poison liquor reaches 32 in upstate cities
In Gloversville New York numerous white faced residents sought hospital care as the poison liquor death toll rose to 32. In Utica and Gloversville hospitals patients are listed with six in Utica eight in Gloversville and twenty under observation. Victims were stricken blind and died in agony with no recoveries reported.

Texas Public Works Probe Opens February Six
Charges of graft in the allocation and expenditure of Public Works Administration funds for Texas projects will be investigated in Washington February 6 by a special District of Columbia federal grand jury. District Attorney Leslie Garnett ordered the probe after coordinating with PWA investigators. This marks the first special federal grand jury here since the Fall-Doheny oil case a decade ago.
