The Palace Theatre shows Shut My Big Mouth featuring Joe E Brown as a March of Dimes prevue Friday night January 30 starting at 9 40. Proceeds go to the campaign with funds to help Whitewright go over the top, a drive supported by Geo M Hight and staff offering time gratis.
Miss Johnnie Massey daughter of Mrs Grover Smith Sherman and Miss Mary Ellen Brown daughter of Mr and Mrs Tom Brown Orangeville community were thrown from a sled in front of an automobile on a highway just north of Hi Way Grocery. Massey leg was broken in three places and Brown suffered back injuries. They were hit as the sled pulled by a car was overtaken by an approaching vehicle. The driver, a University of Oklahoma student en route from East Texas, with a companion, drove away after the collision. Both girls were taken to St Vincent Hospital Sherman.

New Brunswick N J colleges report a pipe smoking derby craze led by pipe expert Robert L Marxman. Contestants keep a pipe lit with one sixteenth ounce tobacco and a single match. Frank Sullenbarger of Rutgers held the record at 64 minutes with Edward R Dayton of NYU close behind at 49 minutes 41 seconds. About 250 spectators watched the Rutgers event.

Roy Blanton chaired the Fifty Percent Program, featuring charter members W. E. LaRoe and J. H. Waggoner with talks on Rotary and 23 years in Whitewright. Visitors included Jim Grady from Sherman and guests Dr. F. B. Stafford and Don Newman.
The Sun published a request to locate Thomas J. Bruce, insured by Mutual Life of New York since 1896, who resided in Whitewright. After readers offered limited info, Mrs. Elbert Thompson of Pilot Point identified Mrs. Bruce in Aubrey. Bruce died about four years ago, and the company thanked The Sun for locating the policy holder, enabling settlement.
James Williams’ 1941 Buick ran into a ditch on a farm road northeast of Bonham. While he phoned for a wrecker, his car was looted of a side of beef and a ham. The incident taunts the miscreants choosing to strike a man when he is down.

Wm. C. Pennington longtime Royse City resident and former lumberman died at his home Monday night at 10 20 p m aged 85. Born near Whitewright he was the son of pioneer settlers. Funeral set for 1 30 p m in Royse City. Survived by two sons Rham and Neil Pennington of Sherman two daughters Mrs W C Wright Farmersville and Mrs J C Camp Royse City and Miss Regina Pennington teaching in Denison. sister Mrs Nettie Groves Denison and several grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p m Tuesday at the Daniel Funeral Chapel Sherman for Don Carlos Fuller who died in a Sherman hospital at 3 a m Monday Rev R B Twitty pastor of the Central Presbyterian Church of Sherman conducted the service Pallbearers were Buster Graves Roscoe Russell Kyle Stone C C Daniel all of Sherman Rhom Carr Gainesville and E E Henry Fort Worth Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery Sherman Fuller a native of Whitewright born August 12 1884 was married to Elizabeth Smith in Whitewright April 15 1913 He was a member of the Sherman Rotary Club and a 32nd degree Mason He had been Sherman manager of the Kimbell farms Survivors include his wife a son Don C Fuller Jr of San Antonio a daughter Mrs Lodena Tutt Sherman four sisters Mrs Kay Kimbell Fort Worth Miss Edith Fuller Mrs John Skillern and Mrs Roy Nix all of Fayetteville and one granddaughter
Buyers battling for scant corn supplies in country towns across the Middle West push prices higher for the nation’s key livestock feed. Reports note the government re entered the wheat market to keep wheat above corn, aiming to curb hog and cattle consumption and sustain exports under the emergency food program.
